Responsive Website Design Services

Your website is an extremely important (if not the most important) part of your online marketing strategy.

We could talk all day about the technical aspects of building a website, but they can largely be summed up as ensuring your website is optimized for devices, search engines, and humans.

Don’t have a website yet? I can build it for you, with all of this baked in.
Have a website that doesn’t look good, or isn’t generating results? Let me redesign it and help you grow.

Your website must clearly communicate:

  • ✔ Who you are.
  • ✔ What you do.
  • ✔ Why anyone should care.
  • ✔ It looks good.
  • ✔ It loads quickly.

Optimized
For Devices

Optimized
For Search Engines

Everyone wants their website to be seen first on Google. Achieving this starts with SEO focused websites built for speed and indexing, with high quality content driven by niche and location specific keyword research.

Optimized
For Humans

Ultimately websites need to be designed for humans. UI/UX design, digital accessibility, clear & compelling content, and well written copy that speaks directly to consumers’ needs all contribute to increased conversions/sales.

WordPress Website Design

Whether designing and building a new website, or doing a complete website redesign, the process largely follows the same steps:

1. Brand Kickoff (Questionnaire or Meeting)

We start things off by exploring your goals, guidelines, audience, competitors, positioning, and more.

2. Market Research & Content Strategy

Between discussing with you, and conducting our own research, we’ll help figure out where you currently are within your market, where you’d like to be, and audit any existing content you may have.

3. Branding & Styling

Here we’ll review your existing branding (or help create it in the first place) and discuss the best way to implement it across your new website.

4. Technical Details (Hosting, Domain, etc.)

Getting the nitty-gritty technical details and account accesses/setups out of the way so we can focus on the fun bits.

5. Keyword Research & Site Architecture

Everything so far is then combined into a new site structure: logical, easy to navigate, and based on keyword research.

6. Copywriting

Based on further keyword research, we can write all the content for your website. If you already have content or an in-house writer, you can send the content to us for review and use. All content is written by humans, optimized for ranking on search engines, and approved by you before being published (unless you trust us enough to publish before review – one less stress on your already full plate).

7. Page Design & UI/UX Design

This is the most exciting step! All of the above comes together into your new visually stunning website. You sign off on everything, and can work with us to revise it into the final product of your dreams.

8. Conversion Tracking Setup

We’ve just told you that a great looking website, with quality content, is key in generating results and money, but how do you prove it? Properly implementing conversion tracking (via Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google Tag Manager, Bing Webmaster Tools, and a recommended Call Tracking Software, etc.) is key to knowing how users actually got to your site, and what they did after. We can help ensure you know just how many forms were sent, what sources generated your leads, how many times your phone rang, and more.

9. Quality Assurance Testing

Designing and building a website is a lot of work, with a ton of moving parts. Once everything has come together, it is important to test it – heck, we actually try to break it! Do forms work properly? Does everything look good on different mobile devices? Are key events (conversions) showing up properly in analytics? We test for all of this, and more, before it could cause an issue.

10. Launch & Post Launch Support

Once we’re all happy, everything gets pushed live! Sometimes things get missed in the testing phases, or work differently in a live environment, so we continue to monitor and troubleshoot issues that may come up for 30 days after launch. We’re happy to also offer ongoing monthly support or SEO services to help your growth continue.

Additional Website Costs

Transparency is important, which is why I want to make sure you’re aware that there are other costs associated with running a website, beyond just the costs of the actual web design services.

These are costs associated with any website, regardless of who designs it, and are not paid to me directly. I will always recommend a few of the best options for your needs, and help set up everything.

Web Design Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why does website design matter?

Your website is typically one of the first impressions prospective customers get of your company. A well designed website gets your intended message and sales pitch across quickly and has a great user experience: all contributing to building trust, credibility, high rankings on Google, and ultimately sales.

Can poor web design hurt my business?

Absolutely! Poorly designed websites (including pretty but inaccessible ones) create poor user experiences and negative brand perceptions, which contribute to decreased conversion rates and increased maintenance costs.

What is good web design?

Good web design can be summarized in a few bullet points:

  • Well built & intuitive navigation (for ease of use).
  • Responsive web design for mobile devices (so anyone can access it when needed).
  • Quick page loading speeds (so nobody gets annoyed and leaves).
  • Purposeful visuals with useful and well written copy (optimized for SEO so people see it).
  • Enticing calls to action (to actually get results).
  • Brand consistency (helps improve brand awareness and recognition).
  • Accessible (to not alienate customers).

Can I just have AI make my website?

Technically yes, but you really shouldn’t. AI can do amazing things, and is extremely useful in speeding up certain workflows, but it really struggles with the human element – which is crucial for understanding user intent and thus developing compelling and honest content. Websites crafted by human experts rank higher and are more trusted than their AI developed counterparts.

Why is digital accessibility important for web design?

Digital accessibility is a vital part of good web design because otherwise you risk alienating and losing out on a large percentage of your potential customers. Plus, it shows you care about your fellow humans, which in turn increases brand perception and loyalty.

How long does it take to make a website?

The honest answer is that it entirely depends on your needs/goals, existing branding/content, and budget. The larger the website, the longer it takes (especially when you rightfully don’t rely on AI web design). That said, a basic website can typically be completed in a couple of days, whereas large complex websites can take months or even years. Your best bet is to send me your website requirements for a personalized answer!

Does a fast website matter?

Yes. Slow websites significantly contribute to poor conversion rates and immediate user drop-offs: conversion rates drop below 0.6% if pages take more than 5.7 seconds to load. Plus, contrary to what some SEOs tell you, page speed absolutely contributes to your SERP rankings

What’s the difference between web design and SEO?

Web design is about building the website itself: how it works, what it looks like, and the content within. Search engine optimization (SEO) is the strategic integration of keywords, user intent, local signals, and more, to get your website ranking highly on search engines for the terms your clients search for. SEO has a large overlap with web design, but also has a large off-page component completely unrelated to how your website looks or functions.

If I have a well designed website, do I need SEO?

In 99% of cases, yes! You can absolutely design a website without SEO, and that is better than no website at all, but it isn’t recommended if you want organic traffic from Google or other search engines (including ChatGPT and other AI search tools). The exception is super niche industries or personal uses where you don’t want or need organic traffic.

Can I just redesign my website?

Often a website redesign is all you need to improve SEO, accessibility, and conversions. But if you’ve undergone a large branding change, change in service/product offerings, or are facing PR or legal challenges, you might need to opt for an entirely new website.

Do I need ongoing website maintenance?

If your website is really basic, or you know what you’re doing yourself, no! But for many business owners it is a great idea to invest in ongoing professional website maintenance to ensure things keep working, your plugins are up to date, and your website is secure. More important than maintenance, is typically ongoing SEO services to drive traffic to you.

Do you offer Victoria web design services elsewhere?

Absolutely! My services are available to anyone that speaks English, but I’m most experienced with Canadian and American websites. Having lived in Victoria, Princeton, Williams Lake, and Houston, I am intimately familiar with the needs and layout of British Columbia (especially Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, the Okanagan, the Similkameen Valley, and the Cariboo region).

Does my web designer need to be local?

Not at all! It helps if your website designer is fluent in your language (if they’re writing your content or doing keyword research for you), and knowledge of your service areas is always a plus, but it is more important that the designer has the skills you are looking for and is someone you can get along with.

I’m currently based in Victoria, but have lived in communities all over British Columbia (Princeton, Houston, Williams Lake, and Victoria) as well as in France (Saint-Étienne), and am comfortable making websites for anyone in Canada, the United States, or any other English speaking area. Reach out and see if I’m a good fit for you!
