Search engine optimization is a long-term game, whereas PPC is the quick pay-to-play approach. SEO results take time and investment, but ultimately drives “free” leads and brand awareness.
Understanding SEO Services: What Is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the broad term that covers a variety of techniques to improve your rankings on search engine results pages (SERPs) like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. These SEO techniques include things like: keyword research, content optimization, backlinks, and more.
Whether you have a physical location or just an online presence, ranking higher on Google leads to increased visibility, increased traffic, and increased brand awareness. Good SEO helps drive targeted organic traffic to your site: both new qualified prospects, and more leads from people already searching for your services.

On-Page SEO Services
On-page SEO refers to optimizations made, well, on the website itself in order to improve its rankings, visibility, and relevance in search results. It involves refining things like content quality, title tags, meta descriptions, header tags, and internal linking structures to align with targeted keywords and user intent. By enhancing these on-site components, businesses can provide a better user experience, increase organic traffic, and achieve higher rankings in search engines.
Technical SEO Services
While on-page SEO typically focuses on the visible content, technical SEO focuses more on optimizing the website’s backend for efficient crawling and indexing by search engines – effectively laying the foundation for the on-page SEO through techniques like: site speed optimization, ensuring mobile-friendliness, XML sitemaps, robots.txt, secure connections (HTTPS), schema markup, and more. Both on-page and technical SEO are benefited by SEO focused web design services.
Off-Page SEO Services
The exact opposite of on-page SEO, off-page SEO refers to all the work done outside of your website to enhance its authority, relevance, and trustworthiness in the eyes of search engines (and users). Key off-page tactics include building high-quality backlinks, securing brand mentions and citation, and engaging in social media marketing. It’s essentially brand awareness with a focus on linking back to your website, which can lead to improved rankings and increased organic traffic.
Local SEO Services
Local SEO is about optimizing your online presence to attract customers in your geographic area, with a large focus on location-based keyword targeting and rankings for local map packs and Google Business Profiles. This includes managing and optimizing Google Business Profiles, ensuring consistent business information across directories, encouraging positive reviews, and localized content creation. Local SEO is essential for businesses aiming to increase visibility in local search results and connect with nearby customers.
Local SEO vs. Traditional SEO: What’s the Difference?
Traditional SEO focuses on provincial, state, or national visibility, whereas local seo is more targeted to specific geographic areas (typically cities). Traditional SEO services are best for e-commerce stores and online service providers (like agencies or SaaS companies), while local SEO services are perfect for local businesses that rely on foot traffic or only service specific areas (restaurants, plumbers, etc).
On-page, off-page, and technical SEO are applicable to both traditional and local SEO services, and a company can focus on both! Reach out to me if you need help choosing the right mix based on your goals.

The SEO Process:
Why Work With Me
Regardless of business type, all of my SEO services include personalized, hands-on support, transparent process and communication, with flexible pricing for small businesses. The exact details may shift as they’re tailored to your needs, but the process largely follows the same steps:
1. Initial Analysis & Strategy Development
We start things off by exploring your goals, guidelines, audience, competitors, positioning, and more. This includes a comprehensive website audit, goal setting, and KPI definition.
2. Keyword Research & Planning
Between discussing with you, and conducting our own industry and competitor research, we’ll start identifying target keywords and phrases. We’ll analyze search volume and competition to discover short and long-tail keyword opportunities, and plan from there.
3. Content Strategy & Creation
Whether we’re starting by building a new website, auditing and improving existing content, or creating new blogs and pages, we’ll use all the research and planning to develop a content strategy and calendar. From here we’ll edit and create high quality, SEO-optimized content, including finding and filling content gaps.
4. Implementation & Optimization
After building a research and results focused strategy, we implement all the various SEO techniques to boost your business’ rankings. From on-page optimizations to technical SEO improvements, and off-page link building or outreach.
But good SEO isn’t just a one-and-done – it is a continuous process that relies on implementing, testing, optimizing, and repeating. We can of course handle a one-time marketing consultation or SEO audit, but we strongly recommend monthly SEO services for most businesses.
5. Monitoring & Reporting
You won’t have to just take us at our word, or rely on vanity metrics, as all monthly SEO services include monitoring and reporting. We’ll track your rankings and organic traffic, analyze user behavior and conversions, and implement content and strategy adjustments.
SEO Services Pricing

Frequently Asked Questions About SEO (FAQ)
How long does it take to see results from SEO?
SEO results typically begin to appear within 3 to 6 months. The exact timeline depends on factors such as website age, reputation, competition level, location, content quality, and your industry or niche. Consistent effort and optimization are key to achieving and sustaining improvements in search rankings and organic traffic.
Is SEO a one-time effort or ongoing process?
Search engine optimization can absolutely be implemented in a one-time audit or setup, but best results are gained from ongoing (typically monthly) SEO services. The continued changes in user search patterns, how AI and search engines work, what your competitors are doing, and other timely factors like global politics and industry trends, necessitates good SEO be an ongoing process.
How does SEO differ for different industries?
SEO strategies must be tailored to each industry’s unique characteristics. For example, healthcare SEO emphasizes building trust through authoritative, compliant content and local optimization, as patients often search for nearby providers. In contrast, e-commerce SEO focuses on product optimization, structured data, and conversion rate optimization to drive sales. Service-based industries like law firms or plumbers prioritize local SEO tactics, including optimizing for location-specific keywords and managing online reviews, to attract clients within localized service areas.
Can I do SEO myself or should I hire a professional SEO expert?
The basics of search engine optimization aren’t that hard, assuming you have a strong baseline of computer skills and internet knowledge. However, more complex aspects like technical SEO audits, structured data implementation, advanced link building strategies, troubleshooting responsiveness and site issues, among other things, often require specialized knowledge and experience. You could probably take the time to learn it yourself, but hiring an SEO expert or outsourcing to an outside professional can save time and money – plus typically yielding better results. After all, your expertise is running your business, ours is SEO and digital marketing.
Do I need SEO if I already run ads?
Absolutely! Advertising, especially digital ads like PPC, are more of a quick pay-to-play option where results come quickly but dry up as soon as you stop paying. In contrast, SEO is a long-term investment that takes time to get rolling, but once you’re ranking high it pays off with long-term “free” leads and brand awareness that also typically takes time to lose (barring abrupt changes of course). That said, ads can hit placements and audiences that search engine optimization alone can’t, so if you have the budget it is strongly recommended to do both.
How do you know if SEO is working?
Broadly speaking, you can tell SEO is working if you notice increased brand awareness, recognition, visibility, and leads. Initial stages are often marked by increases in impressions for keywords, which translates into increased organic traffic as you climb into the top 10 rankings for keywords. With good SEO, these keywords will be strategically chosen to increase traffic from qualified leads, which should lead to increased conversions/sales/clients, as noted in your engagement and sales metrics.
How does AI affect SEO?
AI is streamlining SEO tasks like keyword research and content creation (not yet a replacement for SEO experts, more-so tools to help them be even more effective). It also helps search engines better understand user intent, leading to more relevant results. With the rise of AI-generated content, search engines are prioritizing high-quality, original content, so focusing on expertise and trustworthiness (E-E-A-T) is key for better rankings.
What are some current SEO trends?
As of 2025, SEO trends focus on AI integration and use, user experience, and content authenticity. As search engines include AI overviews, and users opt to ditch search engines for AI search altogether, zero-click searches are on the rise. This leads to an increased emphasis on E-E-A-T (content and businesses demonstrating experience, expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness), a good user experience, and things like schema markup to help boost click-through-rates on SERPs.
Can you do SEO for more than Google?
Absolutely! While Google is the most popular search engine by a wide margin, others exist like Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, YouTube, and now AIs like chatGPT. Core SEO principals remain the same across platforms, but some search engines have unique algorithms, user preferences, or tools (like Bing Webmaster Tools or Apple Maps) that need to be taken into account. Your SEO strategy and services should be tailored to the search methods your target audience use.
What areas do you serve?
Based out of Victoria BC Canada, I provide SEO services to anyone across Canada and the USA (if you’re local we can meet up for coffee!). If you’re outside of Canada or the USA but still feel like I could be a good fit, or you want to chat about joint opportunities, please don’t hesitate to reach out either!
What are some tools for search engine optimization?
Effective SEO relies on a combination of tools. The free basics include Google Analytics 4 (to track user behavior and actions on your site) and Google Search Console (to monitor your site’s presence on Google search results). More advanced, but pricey, SEO tools include more in-depth tracking, research, and reporting tools like Semrush, Ahrefs, and BrightLocal. More budget friendly, but still powerful, SEO tools include the likes of Screaming Frog and KeySearch (affiliate link).
What is white-hat SEO?
White-hat SEO refers to optimization techniques that adhere to search engine guidelines, focusing on enhancing user experience and providing valuable, relevant content. This ethical approach includes practices like creating high-quality content, optimizing website structure, and earning backlinks naturally, all aimed at improving search rankings without resorting to manipulative tactics. This is the opposite of black-hat SEO, which focuses on more unethical or manipulative tactics.
What is black-hat SEO?
In contrast to the rule-abiding white-hat SEO approach, black-hat SEO refers to techniques that violate search engine guidelines in an attempt to manipulate SERP results. Black-hat SEO is often described as unethical, and can indeed deliver significant results – but these results are often short-lived and put your site at risk of lower rankings, or even complete removal from search results, when caught. It isn’t worth risking your business and reputation for black-hat SEO tactics.
Is digital accessibility important for SEO?
Yes, digital accessibility is important for SEO. While not a direct ranking factor, accessible websites align with SEO best practices like clear navigation and optimized images, improving crawlability and user experience. This leads to better engagement, lower bounce rates, and higher rankings. Additionally, accessible sites can reach a broader audience, increasing traffic and conversions.
